ONE3D EP Coming Out Soon

After completing my official “comeback” song (titled “You Really Shouldn’t” and should be released soon), I did inventory on my completed tracks so far. It was a pleasant surprise to find out that I’ve completed a total of 9 songs that are just waiting for public consumption!

These are tracks that I’ve written and recorded ever since… 2005 (it’s quite pathetic that my average is 2 songs a year, but what the hell — I’m trying to rectify that situation here). It’s quite interesting to see how my style (both writing and recording) has developed over the years — which is also the reason why I want to release these songs now — if my sound HAS changed, then these tracks just wouldn’t fit in with any other new ones that I might come up with right now.

So… What’s going to happen is that I’ll compile these tracks and release a free EP for this site only. Once I get the studio sessions sent to me here in Vancouver (they’re burnt to CDR and securely stored at my house in Manila, haha) I’m going to make some final edits and mix the songs for the last time. I’ll get the cover art done as soon as I know what the EP’s title is going to be, but I already have an idea of how it’s going to look like. To clarify, this is a digital release, but I might invest on pressing up 100 CDs to give away to people.

These are exciting times, and the marketing is going according to plan! Still talking to nobody here, but I’ll get there =) Peace!

Creature Of The Night

ONE3D “Funny” Fact #27: I am virtually USELESS during daytime, and only start functioning at 100% at sundown. After midnight is when the genius happens.

As I’m wrapping up the finishing touches on my first song after a 3-year hiatus, I realized that all the good takes were recorded past 2AM. It’s funny how there was absolutely nothing usable from the daytime sessions — not even “talking during the intro” takes! I wrote the song at night, too. Probably the only thing I can do fine in the morning is mixing the volume levels of the vocals and shit — coz that doesn’t really take much artistic thinking, just tweaking knobs until shit starts to sound good in your ears.

Thinking about it, the music thing makes an excellent moonlighting career. It leaves me with daytime to take care of my business, then retreat into the night and make music.

At any rate, the song is DONE on my end. It’s been written, it’s been recorded, it’s been polished. Just sent it off to the producer to get his feedback. As soon as I hear from him, I’ll make the changes that he suggested (if any), then it’s off to release the son of a bitch into the public. Hmmmm, quite a freaky thought — I’ve always handled “publicity” for Audible back then, but I’ve never released any of my solo songs into the public (except for “Letter To The Philippines”) especially with all the marketing blah-blah that I’ve learned over the past few years.

To say the least, this is gonna be quite exciting.

PS. If you’re reading this, you’re probably thinking that I’m just talking to myself. In which case, I AM. As far as I know, NOBODY knows of this website just yet. I’m handling some things on my end before I publicly announce the existence of this site… Some cool things are about to happen though, that’s for sure.

Coz I’m Old School Like That..

I realize that a Macbook isn’t the most ideal computer to be running a recording rig based on Adobe Audition 1.5, but whatever. I’m not a creature of change, and I record much better stuff since I know my way around Adobe Audition 1.5 (not even 3.0, haha) much better than any other DAW. I finally got Audition set up the way I wanted it, with zero latency between the recording and the actual playback (stupid Firewire interfaces).

Fuck a Pro Tools, Cubase and Logic — Adobe Audition 1.5 is where it’s at! Hahah.

Feels Good To Be Back!

With the exception of “Bayani” (which was written and recorded over a period of 24 hours), the last track I ever made was completed sometime in April 2007.

Ever since then, I’ve been suffering from the dreaded writer’s block, and just couldn’t write ANYTHING that’s even worth recording (a few lines here and there, but I didn’t have it in me to write a full verse). So it goes without saying that I’m a little bit rusty when it comes to writing lyrics, and much less being behind the mic.

Luckily for me, I got bitten by the musical bug again last month. I suddenly felt the itch to write… something, anything. It was difficult at first, as I was warming up and finding my rhythm. I would get a few lines down, and then the lyrics would find itself going off on a completely different topic… Either that, or I just would have no idea how to continue after the first 6-8 bars! >:O

But I kept writing. And miraculously, one night, I found myself getting past The Dip. What started out with 2 lines became 8, and within half an hour those 8 lines became 16. I looked it over, and hey, it wasn’t bad — at the very least, it passed my standards of quality. It didn’t take long until that verse became a full song, and after a few days of refining I’ve finally finished writing my first track after several years (once again, with the exception of “Bayani“).

What’s going to happen after I record this sum’bitch and get it polished the way I want it to? Well, from this point forward what I’m planning is to do is to release my music in short EPs that consist of 3-4 songs. I definitely feel like I’m close to pumping out quality music in a much shorter period of time, not to mention the several unreleased tracks that I have locked in the vault… At this rate, I’m confident I can release a new EP every month or two. For free, of course, which is what Digital Revolution is all about… But we’ll cover that in a different post.

At any rate, it’s damn great to be back doing music again… You’ll hear much more from me, I promise. Till then, peace.

Audible – “Freestyle” (Music Video)

Let me start off this brand new site by rewinding 4 years and bringing it back to late 2006 for a bit — the time that we produced our first music video. No, it’s definitely not your typical rap video. It actually has a motif, conceptualized by the video producers based on what they felt the song was about — namely, a rebellion against conformity and doing your own thing.

Recruited some of our friends to help us fill the slots, and had a great time acting! At least for me, this never gets old. Great nostalgia, and in my opinion, great song (no matter how sick we got of it).

Here it is for your viewing pleasure.
